The best part about getting married in Fiji is that you can have your entire wedding planned out for you, if you choose to stay at a wedding resort. These resorts arrange your entire nuptials from start to finish and take care of your each and every need, as you and your partner enjoy the most special day of your lives. Getting married in Fiji is relatively simple and straightforward with no real legal problems. All that you require is:
- Original birth certificates
- Your passports
- A Decree Nisi/Absolute, if you are divorced
- A death certificate of your spouse, if you are a widow/er
- An officially witnessed consent by your parents, if you are under the age of 21
- A letter confirming your marital status and that you are single. Only citizens of New Zealand, Australia, UK, USA and Canada, do not require this letter.
To get married in Fiji you and your partner need to visit the Registry office to apply for a marriage license. These formalities take just 15 minutes, and you can obtain your license within one working day. Registry offices are present in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka. If you are getting married on any of the other islands, there are registry offices at Savusavu and on Taveuni.
These offices are open from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 3pm, with your license valid for 21 days. The license fee is FJD $50.00. Original documents must be presented when you visit the Registry office in person, while a photocopy of the required documents must be sent to the office, at least 2 weeks prior to your intended wedding date.
If you wish to have a Catholic wedding, you will also need a Letter of Freedom from your church, along with your baptism certificate. These documents must be sent to the priest in Fiji 2 to 3 months in advance.
